Basic Knowledge of Pottery

What is pottery?

Pottery is vessels that are formed from clay or kneaded stone powder and are fired in a kiln. Most pottery is glazed for waterproofing and decorative effect. Depending on the raw materials used, whether it is glazed or unglazed, the firing temperature, and the purpose, pottery can be divided into five categories: earthenware, pottery(toki and sekki),  porcelain, and tile. In Tsuboya, pottery is called "yachimun" in Okinawan dialect.
